The Inside Swing

Silverleaf Club

Scottsdale, Arizona

One of the most exclusive desert clubs in Arizona, Silverleaf is a Tom Weiskopf masterwork carved through pristine Sonoran Desert with dramatic saguaro-studded terrain. The 7,322-yard layout features dramatic elevation changes and impeccable conditioning year-round.

History & Heritage

Silverleaf Club opened in 2002 as the centerpiece of the ultra-exclusive Silverleaf residential community at the base of the McDowell Mountains in north Scottsdale. The community was developed by DMB Associates, and 1973 Open Champion Tom Weiskopf was chosen to design a course worthy of the spectacular high-desert setting.

Weiskopf crafted a par-72 layout stretching to 7,322 yards that flows naturally through the Sonoran Desert landscape, incorporating dramatic elevation changes, boulder outcroppings, and towering saguaro cacti into a design that feels both challenging and organic. The course earned immediate recognition and established Silverleaf as one of the premier private clubs in the American Southwest.

Weiskopf passed away in August 2022 at age 79, but Silverleaf stands as one of his finest works. The club has maintained its position among the top-ranked courses in Arizona, known for impeccable conditioning, a modern clubhouse experience, and a membership that values privacy and exclusivity.

Signature Holes

4
Hole 4 Par 4 · 455 yards

A challenging par 4 that plays through classic Sonoran Desert terrain. The elevated tee provides sweeping views, but the approach requires precision to find a green protected by desert wash and Weiskopf's strategic bunkering.

11
Hole 11 Par 3 · 205 yards

One of only three par 3s on the course, this hole features the rotating tee concept that Weiskopf employed at Silverleaf. Multiple tee positions create different angles and yardages, keeping the hole fresh round after round.

14
Hole 14 Par 5 · 575 yards

A dramatic par 5 on the back nine that traverses hilly terrain with desert and water hazards in play. The risk-reward second shot tempts long hitters but punishes aggression with desert waste areas.

18
Hole 18 Par 4 · 445 yards

A strong finishing par 4 that demands two precise shots. The approach plays to a well-defended green with the McDowell Mountains providing a stunning backdrop to close the round.

What to Expect

Silverleaf delivers one of the most refined private golf experiences in the Southwest. The Weiskopf design features wide, flowing fairways with elevated tees that provide panoramic desert views and clear sight lines. The back nine is particularly dramatic, traversing hills and incorporating water features alongside classic desert terrain.

Conditioning is exceptional year-round, and the experience extends beyond golf to a modern clubhouse with first-class dining and amenities. The club is known for its personalized locker room experience, with members finding their name and preferences ready upon arrival.

Playing Tips

The greens at Silverleaf are subtly contoured and can be difficult to read. Pay close attention to the slope of the surrounding terrain for clues on break direction. The fairways are wide and reward confident tee shots, but approach shots must be precise to avoid Weiskopf's strategic bunkers.

The back nine plays significantly hillier than the front, so be prepared for uneven lies and uphill approaches. Forced carries over desert wash are a factor on several holes. Wind can pick up in the afternoon, affecting club selection by one to two clubs.
