Tobacco Road Golf Club

Tobacco Road Golf Club opened in 1998 on the site of an old sand quarry near Sanford, North Carolina, about 30 minutes from Pinehurst. Architect Mike Strantz embraced the raw, scarred terrain rather than trying to tame it, creating what many consider the most unconventional and polarizing golf course in America. The massive sand dunes, some reaching 50 feet high, and blind shots challenged every assumption about traditional golf course design.

Strantz was known as "The Maverick" of golf architecture, and Tobacco Road is the course most often mentioned when discussing his legacy.
