Seminole Golf Club

Miami, Florida

Widely regarded as the finest Donald Ross design in Florida and one of the top 10 courses in America, Seminole in Juno Beach is an oceanside masterpiece. The 2021 Walker Cup was the first competitive event held at the course in decades, bringing global attention to this ultra-exclusive layout.

History & Heritage

Seminole Golf Club was incorporated in the spring of 1929, the brainchild of financier E.F. Hutton, who commissioned famed Scottish-born architect Donald Ross to design a course on a stunning dune-ridge property in Juno Beach, Florida. Ross started work immediately and the course officially opened on January 1, 1930. Ross routed 18 holes across two parallel dune ridges running north-south, making incredibly varied and efficient use of the natural terrain.

The club became a favorite winter retreat for America's golfing elite. Ben Hogan famously used Seminole as his pre-Masters tune-up course each spring, playing rounds alone in the wind-swept dunes to sharpen his game. Tom Doak has given the course his highest rating, underscoring its architectural significance.

Seminole remained largely out of the competitive spotlight for decades until the 2021 Walker Cup brought global attention to the layout. The club has also undergone a major reconstruction project to restore Ross's original design intent, including rebuilding bunkers and greens to their original dimensions. Seminole is consistently ranked among the top 10 courses in America.

Signature Holes

6
Hole 6 Par 4 · 390 yards

Famously known as Ben Hogan's favorite hole at Seminole. Hogan would prepare for tournaments by hitting approach shots to this green repeatedly. The hole demands a precise approach to a well-bunkered green.

13
Hole 13 Par 3 · 175 yards

One of the most intimidating waterless par-3 tee shots on the course. Seven bunkers surround the green, and the coastal wind makes club selection a true test of judgment.

17
Hole 17 Par 3 · 197 yards

Perhaps the most famous hole at Seminole and one of the most celebrated par 3s in world golf. The hole is brutally exposed to the ocean wind, and bunkers frame a green that demands an exacting tee shot.

18
Hole 18 Par 4 · 417 yards

A strong finishing hole that plays hard against the Atlantic. The wind and strategic bunkering make par a satisfying score to close out a round at one of America's greatest courses.

What to Expect

Seminole is a windswept, dune-lined masterpiece that feels unlike any other course in Florida. The layout moves through two prominent ridges, creating constant elevation change and visual drama. The par-72 course plays to approximately 7,079 yards from the tips with a coastal wind that is always a factor.

The experience is intimate and exclusive, with immaculate conditioning on Bermuda turf. Walking is the standard mode of play, and the club maintains an old-world atmosphere that emphasizes the quality of the golf above all else.

Playing Tips

Wind management is the single most important skill at Seminole. The prevailing ocean breeze affects every shot, and club selection must be adjusted constantly. The course plays dramatically different depending on wind direction.

Ross's green complexes are the primary defense. Many greens are crowned and reject shots that miss the correct angle of approach. Hitting to the proper side of the fairway to set up the ideal approach angle is essential for scoring.
