Trump National Doral - Blue Monster

Miami, Florida

The iconic Blue Monster at Doral has been a South Florida landmark for over 60 years. Gil Hanse's comprehensive renovation modernized this classic layout while preserving its championship pedigree and the famous 18th hole.

History & Heritage

The Blue Monster at Doral was originally designed by Dick Wilson and Robert von Hagge and opened in 1962 as part of the Doral Resort in Miami. The course hosted PGA Tour events for decades, with the 18th hole becoming one of the most iconic finishes in professional golf.

Donald Trump purchased the resort in 2012 and commissioned Gil Hanse to conduct a comprehensive renovation completed in 2014. Hanse extended the course to over 7,500 yards, created a new peninsula green on the 15th, and reimagined the 16th as a drivable par 4.

The Blue Monster remains one of the most famous courses in South Florida, attracting golfers seeking to test themselves on a storied championship layout.

Signature Holes

1
Hole 1 Par 5 · 600 yards

Hanse extended the opener by 100 yards, making it a true three-shot par 5.

15
Hole 15 Par 3 · 170 yards

Hanse created a peninsula green with water on three sides.

16
Hole 16 Par 4 · 325 yards

Reimagined as a drivable par 4 with water left, creating exciting risk-reward.

18
Hole 18 Par 4 · 467 yards

The iconic finishing hole. A dogleg-left with water guarding the entire left side.

What to Expect

A long championship layout at over 7,500 yards from the tips. Hanse's renovation maintained trademark water hazards, deep bunkers, and Bermuda rough.

South Florida wind makes the relatively flat course play much tougher than it appears.

Playing Tips

Wind management is crucial. Afternoon breezes can add two to three clubs. The Bermuda rough is thick, so keep it in the fairway.

On 18, avoid the water left at all costs -- bailout right is smarter unless confident in your draw.
