The Inside Swing

PGA National Resort - Champion Course

Miami, Florida

Home of The Honda Classic on the PGA Tour, PGA National's Champion Course features the infamous "Bear Trap" — three consecutive holes (15-17) considered among the most demanding stretches on Tour. The Fazio/Nicklaus design balances resort playability with championship teeth.

History & Heritage

The Champion Course at PGA National was designed by George and Tom Fazio and opened November 17, 1981. It hosted the 1983 Ryder Cup and 1987 PGA Championship. Jack Nicklaus redesigned it in 1990, creating the infamous "Bear Trap" -- holes 15-17. Nicklaus refined the course again in 2002 and 2014.

The course has hosted the PGA Tour annually since 2007, currently the Cognizant Classic. The Bear Trap regularly decides tournament outcomes.

At just over 7,000 yards, it is a precision test rather than a brute-force challenge.
