The Inside Swing

Streamsong Resort - Black

Tampa, Florida

The newest course at Streamsong Resort, Gil Hanse's Black routing is the most dramatic and photographed of the three courses. Built on the highest point of the property, it features vertigo-inducing elevation changes and bold, strategic design.

History & Heritage

Streamsong Black was designed by Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner and opened in 2017 as the third course at Streamsong Resort. Hanse, fresh off designing the 2016 Olympic Golf Course in Rio de Janeiro, was given the highest and most rugged terrain on the former phosphate mine property, creating dramatic elevation changes almost unheard of in Florida golf.

The Black Course features a unique par of 73 with five par 5s and four par 3s. Hanse designed wide fairways that narrow at key landing areas, massive bunker complexes, and greens that reward precise approach play. The course also offers flexible 6-hole, 9-hole, and 12-hole loops, plus a practice area called The Roundabout. Streamsong Black has earned a place among Golf Digest's Top 100 courses in America.

Signature Holes

3
Hole 3 Par 4 · 423 yards

One of the most dramatic holes in Florida golf. The tee shot plays over a massive sand ridge to a hidden fairway, then the approach climbs steeply uphill to an elevated green.

7
Hole 7 Par 3 · 178 yards

A stunning downhill par 3 from an elevated tee offering panoramic views. The green is ringed by deep bunkers and wind is always a factor.

9
Hole 9 Par 4 · 450 yards

A fantastic finishing hole for the front nine with bunkers on both sides and a well-defended green.

15
Hole 15 Par 3 · 131 yards

A deceptively short par 3 that plays dramatically downhill. The angled, well-bunkered green makes club selection critical.

What to Expect

Streamsong Black is the most exposed and rugged of the three Streamsong courses with dramatic elevation changes and a par-73 layout featuring five par 5s and four par 3s.

Green complexes are large and boldly contoured with false edges and fallaway slopes. Conditions are firm and fast, consistent with the links-like ethos of the resort.

Playing Tips

Study pin positions carefully as the preferred side of the fairway changes based on flag location. On downhill holes like the 3rd and 15th, trust the yardage. The Roundabout practice area is excellent for warming up.

Flexible 6-hole, 9-hole, and 12-hole loops are available for shorter rounds.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Streamsong Black different from the Red and Blue?
Black sits on the highest terrain with the most dramatic elevation changes and a unique par of 73 with five par 5s. Gil Hanse's design is bolder and more exposed than the Coore-Crenshaw Red or Tom Doak Blue.
Can I play a shorter loop on Streamsong Black?
Yes. The course offers flexible 6-hole, 9-hole, and 12-hole routing options in addition to the full 18.
What is The Roundabout?
A free-flowing practice area where golfers hit shots to various targets in an open field, rather than a traditional driving range.
Is Streamsong Black the hardest of the three courses?
It is generally the most visually intimidating due to elevation changes, but the par-73 layout with five par 5s can be forgiving if you play smart.
