The Carrying Place Club

The Carrying Place Club traces its origins to 1924 when the original nine-hole course was established in the Humber River valley near Bolton, Ontario, northwest of Toronto. The club takes its name from the historic portage routes used by Indigenous peoples and early explorers to carry canoes between waterways in the region, reflecting the deep Canadian heritage of the property.

In 1972, the course was expanded to 18 holes with new holes seamlessly integrated by C.E. "Robbie" Robinson, one of Canada's most respected golf course architects who had apprenticed under the legendary Stanley Thompson. Robinson's design maximized the exceptional natural terrain of the Humber River valley, using the dramatic elevation changes, mature forests, and open meadows to create holes of remarkable variety and beauty.

More recently, Canadian architect Doug Carrick, who himself apprenticed under Robinson, has led improvements to the course, maintaining the design lineage while modernizing the layout for contemporary play. The Carrying Place Club remains a beloved private institution with a loyal membership that cherishes its quintessentially Canadian character.
