The Inside Swing

Arcadia Bluffs Golf Club

Arcadia, Michigan

Perched on 245-foot bluffs above Lake Michigan on the state's western coast, Arcadia Bluffs is one of the most dramatic resort courses in America. The links-style layout features windswept fescue, panoramic lake views from every hole, and a clifftop setting that draws frequent comparisons to the great Irish links.

History & Heritage

Arcadia Bluffs Golf Club opened in 1999 on Michigan's western coast, perched more than 245 feet above Lake Michigan. Designed by Warren Henderson in collaboration with well-known instructor Rick Smith, the course was inspired by the great seaside links of Ireland and Scotland, translated to a spectacular Great Lakes setting.

The course drew immediate acclaim and comparisons to Whistling Straits for its lakeside links character. It has been consistently ranked among the best public-access courses in America. Arcadia Bluffs expanded in 2019 with a second 18-hole layout called the South Course, designed by Dana Fry and Jason Straka.

The facility later added The Dozen, a 12-hole short course. But the original Bluffs Course remains the premier attraction, offering one of the most visually stunning and wind-challenged golf experiences in the Midwest.

What to Expect

Arcadia Bluffs delivers a Scottish links experience 245 feet above Lake Michigan. Windswept fescue fairways, deep pot bunkers, and open terrain create a true links feel. Lake Michigan is visible from every hole and the setting rivals the great coastal courses of the British Isles.

The course plays 7,300 yards at par 72 from the back tees. Wind off Lake Michigan is a constant factor that dramatically changes the character of holes.

Playing Tips

Wind off Lake Michigan is the primary challenge, blowing 20-30 mph and changing direction as the routing loops around the property. Bring low shots and adjust club selection by two to three clubs on exposed holes.

Fescue rough is penal so keep the ball on the fairway. Pot bunkers are deep. Bump-and-run approaches work beautifully on firm, fast fairways.
